Our Recent New Roof Projects Across Wales
A selection of new roof installations completed across Cardiff and wider Wales — from full pitched roof replacements on terraced houses to new build roofing projects and flat roof systems. Each one built to the same standard, with quality roofing materials and proper attention to the details that matter.
A new roof is one of the bigger investments you will make in your property — and it needs to be right. Not just the tiles or slates you can see from the ground, but everything underneath: the felt, the battens, the ventilation, the flashing details around chimneys and abutments. That hidden work is what separates a roof that lasts thirty years from one that starts causing problems after five.
New Tiled Roof — Cardiff Terrace
At Wales Roofing and Guttering, we have been installing new roofs across Cardiff and South Wales for over 15 years. Whether it is a full strip and re-roof on a Victorian terrace in Pontcanna, a new build project in the Vale of Glamorgan, or a complete roof replacement on a detached property in Swansea, the approach is the same: proper preparation, quality roofing materials, and workmanship that meets current building regulations.

Full Roof Replacement
by Experienced Welsh Roofers
There is no getting around it — Wales gets a lot of rain. Coastal winds batter properties from Pembrokeshire to the Gower, and temperature swings between seasons put constant stress on roofing materials. Our team has spent years working on properties across this region, and that hands-on knowledge shapes every new roof installation we carry out. We know which tiles perform well on exposed hillsides, which underlays cope best with driving rain, and where ventilation problems tend to crop up in older Welsh housing stock.
A full roof replacement with us covers everything. We strip the existing covering, inspect and replace any damaged timbers, install breathable roofing membrane, fit new treated battens at the correct gauge, and lay your chosen tiles or slates. Lead flashings around chimneys, abutments, and valleys are dressed to current standards. Ridge and hip tiles are mechanically fixed using dry ridge systems where appropriate. Guttering, fascias, and soffits can be replaced at the same time — doing it all in one go saves on scaffolding costs and disruption.
Every new roof we install is fully compliant with UK Building Regulations, including updated insulation requirements. We arrange all necessary scaffolding, handle waste removal, and leave the site clean when we finish. All completed work carries a written guarantee, and we are happy to provide a free, no-obligation quote before you commit to anything.
When Does Your Property
Need a New Roof?
When Does Your Property Need a New Roof?
Not every roof problem calls for a full replacement — sometimes a targeted repair is the right move. But there are clear signs that patching things up is no longer enough. Persistent leaks that keep returning after repairs, widespread cracked or slipped tiles, sagging along the ridge line, or daylight visible through the roof boards from inside the loft — all of these point to a roof that has reached the end of its working life.
Age matters too. Most tiled roofs in Wales last somewhere between 40 and 60 years depending on the materials and how well they were maintained. If your roof is in that range and problems are mounting, a full roof replacement is usually more cost-effective than paying for repeated repairs that only buy another year or two.
We always carry out a thorough inspection before recommending a new roof. If a repair can do the job properly, we will say so. There is no benefit to us in replacing a roof that does not need replacing — our reputation depends on giving honest advice.

Types of New Roof We Install
Pitched Roofs — Slate & Tile: The majority of Welsh homes have pitched roofs, and natural slate has a long history here for good reason. It copes well with heavy rainfall and can last upwards of 80 years when laid correctly. We also install concrete and clay interlocking tiles — a more affordable option that still gives excellent weather protection and comes in a wide range of profiles and colours. Whichever material you choose, the underlying structure gets the same level of care: breathable membrane, properly spaced battens, adequate ventilation, and mechanically fixed ridge and hip tiles.
Flat Roofing — EPDM, GRP & Felt: Extensions, garages, dormers, and bay tops often require flat roofing. We install EPDM rubber membrane systems for larger areas — flexible, hard-wearing, and good for 30+ years with minimal upkeep. GRP fibreglass is our recommendation for smaller flat roofs and balconies where a rigid, seamless finish is needed. Traditional felt systems are also available as a lower-cost option for outbuildings and non-habitable spaces.
New Build Roofing: For construction projects and property developments, we work alongside builders and project managers to deliver roofing packages on schedule. From timber frame structures to traditional brick and block builds, we handle the full installation including all weatherproofing, ventilation, and compliance sign-off.

Why Choose Wales
Roofing & Guttering?
Why Choose Wales Roofing & Guttering?
Choosing a roofing contractor for a new roof is not something most people do regularly. It is a significant spend, and the work needs to last. Here is what sets us apart from other roofers in Cardiff and across Wales.

No Subcontractors
Every person on your roof works for us directly. No agency labour, no subcontracted crews turning up that we have never met. That matters because we are accountable for every tile laid, every piece of flashing dressed, and every batten fixed. If something needs discussing on site, you are talking to the people doing the work — not someone relaying messages.

Trusted Materials, Properly Installed
Cheap roofing materials might knock a few hundred pounds off the quote, but they rarely survive long in the Welsh climate. We source from suppliers we have worked with for years and trust to deliver consistent quality — whether that is natural slate, concrete interlocking tiles, or EPDM membrane. Everything is installed to manufacturer specifications, which also protects your warranty.

Transparent Processes
Older properties have a habit of throwing up surprises once the existing roof comes off — rotten timbers, inadequate ventilation, previous bodge jobs hidden under the old tiles. When that happens, we explain what we have found, photograph it, and agree the way forward with you before any extra work starts. No surprises on the invoice. Every new roof project is documented with photos so you can see exactly what was done and why.

Trusted Roofers Serving Cardiff & All of Wales
Our base is in Cardiff, but we install new roofs right across Wales — from Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan through to Swansea, Bridgend, Neath, and further into Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Domestic properties, commercial buildings, listed homes, new builds — the scope of the project does not change the way we work.
What separates a properly installed new roof from one that will cause problems is mostly invisible from the ground. The quality of the underlay beneath the tiles. Whether the flashings have been stepped and dressed correctly. How the battens have been spaced relative to the tile gauge. Whether the guttering falls at the right gradient towards the downpipe. These are the details that determine how a roof performs ten or twenty years from now, and they are the details we pay close attention to on every job.
Most of our new roof work comes through word of mouth and returning customers, which tells us something. We turn up when we say we will, we keep the site tidy, and we do not leave until the work is finished properly. If something is not right, we would rather flag it during the job than leave you with a problem six months down the line.

Common Questions
About New Roofs
Common Questions About New Roofs
If you are thinking about having a new roof installed in Cardiff or anywhere in Wales, here are the questions we get asked most often. For anything not covered here, give us a call or fill in the enquiry form — we are always happy to talk things through.
How much does a new roof cost in Cardiff and South Wales?
Costs vary quite a bit depending on the size of your property, the pitch and complexity of the roof, and the materials you choose. As a rough guide, a new tiled roof on a standard three-bedroom semi-detached house in South Wales typically falls somewhere between £5,000 and £9,000 including scaffolding and waste removal. Slate roofs tend to sit higher — £8,000 to £13,000 for the same size property — because the material itself costs more and takes longer to lay. Flat roofing systems for extensions or garages are less expensive, usually in the £2,500 to £6,000 range depending on the area covered. We provide a detailed written quote after surveying your property, so you know exactly what is included before any work begins.
How do I know if my roof needs replacing rather than repairing?
The honest answer is that it depends on the extent of the damage and the age of the existing roof. If you have got a couple of slipped tiles or a small patch of failed mortar, a repair is usually the sensible option. But when problems start multiplying — persistent leaks returning in different places, widespread cracking, sagging ridges, or daylight visible through the boards in the loft — that is typically a sign the roof has reached the end of its useful life. Repeated repairs on a roof that is past its best often end up costing more over time than a single replacement would. We always inspect the roof before making a recommendation and will tell you straight whether a repair or a new roof makes more financial sense.
How long does it take to install a new roof?
For a typical terraced or semi-detached house in Cardiff, you are looking at roughly three to five working days for a full strip and re-tile, weather permitting. Detached properties with larger or more complex roofs — hipped roofs, multiple valleys, dormer windows — can take a week or longer. Flat roofing projects tend to be quicker, often two to three days. We will give you a realistic timescale in the quotation stage and keep you updated if weather or any unexpected findings affect the schedule.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof in Wales?
In most cases, no. Replacing your roof with similar materials and a similar profile is normally classed as permitted development and does not require planning permission. However, there are exceptions. If you live in a conservation area, if your property is listed, or if you are planning to change the height or shape of the roof, you may need to apply. Building Regulations approval is a separate matter — all new roofs must comply with current standards for structural integrity, insulation, and ventilation. We handle the building regulations side as part of our service.
What guarantee do you offer on a new roof?
All new roof installations come with a written workmanship guarantee. The length depends on the scope of the project, but for a full roof replacement it is typically between 10 and 20 years. Many of the materials we use also carry separate manufacturer warranties — for example, most concrete and clay tiles are guaranteed for 30 years or more. We will explain exactly what is covered in your quotation so there are no grey areas.
Can you replace my guttering and fascias at the same time as the new roof?
Yes, and we would usually recommend it. Since the scaffolding is already in place, adding new guttering, fascias, and soffits during a roof replacement saves money on access costs and means everything is done in one visit. Old or damaged gutters can undermine a brand new roof by allowing water to back up under the tiles, so it makes practical sense to address both at once.
Ready to discuss a new roof for your property?
Whether you need a complete roof replacement, a new build roofing package, or just want someone to take a proper look and give you an honest assessment — we are here to help. Our team covers Cardiff and all of Wales, and there is no charge for the initial survey or quotation.
Call us today or fill in the contact form and we will be in touch promptly.
