Cleaning in Cardiff
Gutter cleaning in Cardiff is something most homeowners put off until there is water running down the side of the house. By then, the damage is already under way. We see it regularly — blocked gutters that have been left for a year or two, packed solid with moss, leaves, and roof tile grit, with water overflowing straight into the brickwork.
As a roofing contractor, we understand the full picture. Most gutter cleaning companies clear debris and move on. We check the condition of the guttering itself, the brackets, the fall toward the downpipes, and whether anything above — cracked tiles, failed mortar, damaged flashing — is contributing to the problem. It is the difference between treating the symptom and dealing with the cause.
We clean gutters on properties across Cardiff, from Victorian terraces in Roath and Pontcanna through to semi-detached homes in Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, and Llanishen. If you are in Newport, Penarth, Barry, Caerphilly, Bridgend, or further afield in Swansea or the Vale of Glamorgan, we cover those areas too.
Why Gutter Cleaning
Matters in Wales
Why Gutter Cleaning
Matters in Wales
Wales gets more rainfall than almost anywhere else in the UK. Cardiff alone averages around 1,150mm per year — and that figure climbs once you head west toward Swansea or up into the valleys around Pontypridd and Caerphilly. All of that water has to go somewhere, and your gutters are the first stage of that journey.
When gutters block, the water spills over. It saturates walls, pools around foundations, and finds its way into places it should never reach. Damp patches on bedroom walls, peeling plaster, mould behind furniture — these are the problems we are called out to investigate, and more often than not, the root cause sits in the guttering.
There is also the insurance question. Several home insurers in the UK will not pay out on water damage claims if the guttering has not been properly maintained. That is a risk worth taking seriously, particularly in a climate as wet as ours.

Cleaning Process
Our Gutter
Cleaning Process
We do not rush through gutter cleaning jobs. There is a process, and it starts before anyone picks up a tool.
First, we carry out a visual inspection of the full roofline — gutters, fascias, soffits, and downpipes. If we spot cracked brackets, sagging runs, or sections pulling away from the fascia board, we flag them straight away. On older properties across Pontypridd, Barry, and parts of central Cardiff, we regularly find guttering that has been poorly refitted or is the wrong profile for the property. These issues will not be solved by cleaning alone.
Once we have assessed the condition, we clear all debris by hand and with professional vacuum equipment. Moss, compacted leaf matter, silt, bird nesting material — it all comes out. We then flush the downpipes to make sure water flows freely from gutter to ground level. If a downpipe is blocked further down, we will locate and clear it.
After the clean, we test the system with water to confirm everything drains properly. You will know exactly what we found and what we did — no surprises.
Our Recent Gutter Cleaning Work Across Wales
A selection of gutter cleaning projects completed across Cardiff and wider Wales, including blocked gutter clearing, downpipe unblocking, and full gutter system maintenance — all carried out with the same attention to detail we bring to our roofing work.
Gutter Clearing in Cardiff
A blocked gutter does not just overflow. Left unchecked, it can saturate fascia boards, rot rafter feet, and push water behind render and into cavity walls. In a climate like ours — where it can rain for days at a stretch — this kind of damage builds faster than most people realise.
We have cleaned gutters on everything from two-up-two-down terraces in Splott to large detached properties in Penarth and Lisvane. Commercial premises too — offices, schools, and industrial units where access is more complicated and the guttering runs are longer. The approach varies with the building, but the standard does not.
Why Choose Wales
Roofing & Guttering
Why Choose Wales
Roofing & Guttering
Most gutter cleaning companies are window cleaners or pressure washing firms who have added guttering to their list. There is nothing wrong with that — but it means they clean what they can see and move on. As roofing contractors, we bring a different level of understanding. We know what sits behind the fascia board. We know how gutter profiles interact with different tile types. And we can spot problems that a cleaner without roofing experience would simply miss.

Roofers, Not Just Cleaners
Our team works for us directly — no subcontractors, no outsourcing. Because we are roofers by trade, we can identify gutter damage, roof faults, and flashing failures that a standard cleaning service would overlook. When something needs fixing, the people on site have the skills and materials to deal with it there and then.

Full Inspection Included
Every gutter clean includes a condition check of the full rainwater system — brackets, joints, falls, downpipes, and the fascia boards behind them. If we spot something that needs attention, we will tell you about it honestly and give you a clear price before any additional work starts. No hidden charges.

Documented Work
We photograph what we find before and after every gutter cleaning job. That means you have a record of the work carried out, the condition of your guttering, and anything we have flagged for future attention. It is particularly useful for landlords managing rental properties across Newport, Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Gutter Cleaning
Across Cardiff & South Wales
We are based in Cardiff but take on gutter cleaning work right across Wales. From Newport and Caerphilly through to Bridgend, the Vale of Glamorgan, Swansea, and Pontypridd — the same standards apply wherever we go.
Some of our busiest periods fall in late autumn and early spring, when gutters are most likely to be packed with debris. Autumn brings the obvious leaf fall, but spring has its own problems — wind-blown seeds, moss growth from winter moisture, and the accumulated grit that washes off roof tiles over the colder months. We recommend having gutters cleaned at least once a year, and twice if your property sits under or near mature trees.
Most of our gutter cleaning work comes through word of mouth and repeat bookings. We turn up when we say we will, we leave the site tidy, and we do not leave until the work is done properly. If there is a fault that goes beyond a clean, we will let you know what it is and what it would cost to put right — with no pressure to go ahead.

Questions Answered
Gutter Cleaning
Questions Answered
We get asked a lot of the same questions about gutter cleaning. Here are straight answers to the most common ones.
How often should I have my gutters cleaned?
For most properties in Wales, once a year is sufficient — ideally in late autumn after the bulk of the leaf fall. If your property is surrounded by trees or in a particularly exposed position, twice a year (autumn and spring) is a better approach. Properties in wooded areas of Penarth, Lisvane, or the Taff Valley tend to need more frequent attention.
What are the signs that my gutters are blocked?
Water overflowing from the gutters during rain is the most obvious sign. You might also notice damp patches on external walls, green staining beneath the gutterline, or water pooling around the base of the property. In some cases, you can see moss or even plants growing out of the guttering itself.
Can blocked gutters really cause damp inside the house?
Yes. When gutters overflow, the water runs down the face of the wall instead of being channelled away through the downpipes. Over time, this saturates brickwork and mortar joints, leading to penetrating damp on internal walls. In older properties — which make up a large proportion of housing stock in Cardiff, Newport, and the valleys — this can happen faster than you would expect.
Do you clean gutters on commercial properties?
We do. We have cleaned guttering on offices, schools, industrial units, and blocks of flats across South Wales. Commercial guttering runs tend to be longer and higher, and often require different access solutions. We assess each job individually and provide a fixed-price quote before any work begins.
Will you repair any faults you find during cleaning?
Minor issues such as loose brackets or misaligned sections can often be sorted during the clean at no extra cost. For anything more involved — cracked guttering, failed joints, or damaged downpipes — we will provide a separate quote. Because we are a roofing contractor, we carry the parts and the skills to handle most repairs on the spot if you give us the go-ahead.
Need your gutters cleaned in Cardiff or anywhere across Wales?
From a straightforward gutter clear on a semi in Whitchurch to a full rainwater system overhaul on a period property in Penarth, we bring the same level of care to every job. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote — or give us a call and we can usually provide a price over the phone.
